## Why Multi-Tap Voltage Matters

Voltage drops as electricity travels through wire — a fixture 100ft away receives less power than one 10ft away, causing uneven brightness across your system. Multi-tap output solves this. Connect closer fixtures to the 12V tap and longer runs to the 13V, 14V, or 15V tap to compensate for the drop. Every light stays at the same brightness, regardless of how far it sits from the transformer.

## How Many Fixtures Can a 150W Transformer Power?

Stay within 80% of rated capacity — that's 120W of usable power.
Most Lightkiwi LED landscape fixtures run between 3W and 20W:

- 3W path lights → up to 40 fixtures
- 5W spotlights → up to 24 fixtures
- 20W floodlights → up to 6 fixtures
- Mixed system → add up your total fixture wattage and stay under 120W

The 150W is the most popular choice for a typical residential front or backyard with 8–20 fixtures. If you plan to expand significantly, consider stepping up to the 300W for extra headroom.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Does this transformer come with a timer?
The base model does not include a timer. You can add a Mechanical Timer, Digital Timer, or WiFi Smart Plug directly at checkout using the variant selector above. All three fit directly into the transformer's built-in timer port without additional wiring.

### Can I add a photocell later?
Yes. The transformer has a dedicated photocell port. The Lightkiwi L6709 Photocell can be added at checkout or purchased separately at any time.

### What wire gauge should I use with a 150W transformer?
14/2 gauge wire works well for most 150W installations. Use 12/2 for runs over 100ft or higher-wattage fixtures to minimize voltage drop. The transformer accepts up to 10 AWG and accommodates multiple wires per terminal.

### Is this transformer weatherproof?
Yes. The stainless steel enclosure is rated for outdoor installation.
Mount it on an exterior wall near an outdoor GFCI outlet.

### What is the difference between the 150W and 300W transformer?
The 150W handles systems up to 120W — typically 8 to 20 LED fixtures. If your total fixture wattage exceeds 120W, or if you plan to significantly expand your system later, step up to the 300W. Physical size is slightly smaller (16lbs vs 18lbs) but installation process is identical.

### Note on WiFi Smart Plug clearance
One customer noted that the WiFi Smart Plug has limited clearance when installed in this transformer's timer port — the cover may not close fully. If closing the cover is important to you, consider the 300W or 600W model which have more interior space.
